Common Clothes Moth - Tineola Bisselliela
A common insect found throughout the uk . Around 7mm long straw in colour the females do not fly, the males can fly short distances but rarely do preferring to run an take short jumps. The adults do not feed, the larvae will eat natural fibres wool, silk, leather,fur feathers etc.
The female lays eggs directly on a food source, when the eggs hatch the larvae immediately spin a silk cocoon which is their home whilst in the larval stage. Feeding at night and returning home during the day. They may go through as many as 40 moults before turning to a pupae and remaining at this stage for up to 2 months before emerging as an adult.
